There are a wide variety of Tongariro outdoor adventures suitable for either beginners or those seeking something more extreme. The Tongariro Region is rightly famous for the walking and trekking opportunities and in particular the Tongariro Alpine Crossing and Tongariro Northern Circuit. There is also world class trout fishing, outstanding river rafting on the Tongariro River, skiing and snowboarding, cycling & mountain biking and swimming & thermal bathing pools.

Turangi, Tongariro National Park & Taupo
While most activities are based in Turangi or the Tongariro National Park, there are more options around the mountains toward Ohakune & National Park, and in the Kaimanawa Forest Park and Tokaanu, Pukawa and the Western Bays. For those traveling north from Turangi to Rotorua there is also a variety of activities in Taupo and between Taupo and Rotorua, including sky diving, jet boating and bungy jumping. All of these activities can be undertaken as a day trip from Turangi or alternatively consider your choice of travel route to and from Turangi.
